Munich and the Hofbrau Haus, the WWII concentration camp of Dachau, the “Sound of Music” city of Salzburg Austria, Berchtesgaden and Hitler’s Eagles Nest, the Bavarian Salt Mines, Herrenchiemsee Palace of Bavarian King Ludwig II. June 16 Arrival in Munich, transfer to the Alpine paradise of Traunstein. We’ll explore the village and shops and boutiques in the main town square which dates from the 15th century. Overnight Traunstein.
June 17 East to SALZBURG AUSTRIA this morning. We’ll visit the sites including the Salzburg Cathedral, the Salzach River, the tiny cobbled lanes of the Old Town, see the Salzburg Fortress and the oldest monk’s bakery in Austria. If you choose, travel by funicular up to the fortress for a great view. Overnight Traunstein.
June 18 We’ll take a day trip far up into the Alps to Berchtesgaden, to visit Hitler’s so called Eagles Nest, high above the town. Later we will dress up in miners clothes and take the tiny train into the mountain to tour the 500 year old Salt Mines. Overnight Traunstein.
June 19 Dachau today, the first concentration camp of the Nazis, begun in the early 1930s and a model for what was to come. Later we’ll travel into Munich for a walking tour of the Medieval heart of the city, visit the Hofbrau Haus and enjoy some time in an outdoor cafe. Overnight Traunstein.
June 20 This morning we’ll travel to the tiny town of Prien, board a ferry to cross the Chem Lake and visit one of the most spectacular castles in the world, the Herrenchiemsee Palace of King Ludwig II, the Mad King. Later you may choose to visit the village of Ruhpolding and swim in the hot baths or hike the mountains around Traunstein. Overnight Traunstein.
June 21 We’ll return to Munich this morning. You have a lot of choices today: Visit the Deutsches Museum of Science and Industry; the Alte Pinakothek, one of the most famous Renaissance art museums in the world; the BMW Museum and World Headquarters; the Residenz Palace of the former Royal House of Wittelsbach; the Olympic Grounds and Stadium; the wonderfully peaceful Englischer Garten or the Neue Pinakothek, a complete collection of modern art. Overnight near the Munich Airport.
June 22 Transfer to the airport for return flights.
